The Structure of  Komar University
Komar University of Science and Technology (KUST) was established and licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Kurdistan Region Government, by the official letter no. 17867/7 on October 18, 2009. KUST is a private university governed by a Board of Trustees and run by University Council. Its main campus is located in the city of Sulaimany, in KurdistanIraq. The University got license from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Kurdistan Regional Government on October 2009. Today the university has 4 colleges and 8 departments in different fields as listed below:

1. College of Engineering: 
1.1 Civil Engineering Department: 
The Department of Civil Engineering was one of the three engineering departments formed in 2012 with the opening of Komar University of Science and Technology. The civil engineering undergraduate program is working according to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). ABET accreditation means that the program meets certain, defined standards or criteria to ensure the quality of education and training provided to the students in the program. The Civil Department has dedicated full-time faculty members. Most faculty members of the department have earned Ph.D. degrees in Civil from leading international academic institutions. The qualifications of the faculty members reflect the diversity of experiences and academic backgrounds of the faculty in the Department. The faculty members cover several areas of specialization that include structural engineering and concrete technology, surveying, highway and transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, construction management, water resources and environmental engineering. Mission and Objectives The mission of the Department of Civil Engineering at Komar University of Science and Technology is to serve to the country and the public through providing the highest quality civil engineering education using innovative delivery and interaction methods that best utilize the latest and dynamic development in information technology, to respond in a timely and efficient manner to local and regional applied research needs, and to interact with the society to provide the best quality professional service. From the previous perspective, the Department of Civil Engineering sets the following goals and objectives to achieve its mission: 

Goal 1 Establish Leadership in Civil Engineering Education in the Country and the Region, and Maintain a World Class Curriculum. Goal 2 Make the Students the Main Focus of the Department. Goal 3 Achieve a High Level of Communication with the Society and Collaboration with the Industry. 
Goal 4 Increase the Effective Use of Modern Technologies in Administrating the Department Activities. 

1.2 Petroleum Engineering Department: 
Petroleum Engineering Department at KUST is planning to be among the top Petroleum Engineering Departments in Kurdistan Region- Iraq. Currently our department offers a Bachelor of Science program, which focuses mainly on upstream and specifically on Reservoirs, Drilling and Completions. We are committed to providing an educational system for our students to be highly sought in the PTE industry and our graduates to be widely regarded among the most work-ready young engineers in this area. Our program has special features to realize our expectations and to ensure the successful achievement of its objectives, so that it will eventually be accredited by ABET. 
  • Provide graduates who will successfully practice within the Petroleum Engineering profession, 
  • Yield engineers who provide leadership in the workplace and in society as role models of ethical standards and professionalism, 
  • Produce knowledgeable and skilled petroleum engineers capable of pursuing academic research or the further promotion of the national oil and gas industry, 
  • Create efficient communication skills that can usefully bridge between policy makers and the community, 
  • Enhance critical thinking to be free from paradigms, rigid norms and hence achieve higher level of understanding of the pertinent issues. 
1.3 Computer Engineering Department: 
The department does outstanding research in Biometrics Authentication, Computer Security, Network Routing Algorithms, Databases, Data Mining, and more! Our department is committed to sharing knowledge and expertise to benefit the country, the Kurdistan region, and the world whilst inspiring people to engage in computing fields. Mission The Department of Computer Engineering provides a student-centered, high quality teaching and learning environment that promotes the intellectual, personal, and professional development of students, and to serve the needs of computer engineering community as a leading resource. Objectives CEP Undergraduate Program Objectives are based on ABET Program Educational for computer science and engineering 
  • Engineering Quality: Our graduates will engage in the productive practice of computer engineering to identify and solve significant problems across a broad range of application areas by using their skills and knowledge of Computer Engineering to reflect depth of understanding in their sophistication. 
  • Leadership: Our graduates will engage in successful careers in industry, academia, and public service, providing technical leadership for their business, profession and community by thinking strategically in their planning and execution. 
  • Economic Impact: Our graduates will enhance the economic well-being of Kurdistan region and entire Iraq through a combination of technical expertise, leadership and entrepreneurship. 
  • Life-long Learning: Our graduates will adapt to new technologies, tools and methodologies to remain at the leading edge of computer engineering practice with the ability to respond to the challenges of environment and technical changes. 

1.4 Environmental Engineering Department 
Throughout modern history, environmental engineers have always been at the forefront of the drive to improve our standard of living. They remain the central figures in the planning, design, and solving many environmental problems, large and small, that make modern life possible. Mission The mission of the Department of Environmental Engineering (NVE) is to teach, conduct research and serve the community through professional development and technology transfer. The NVE pursues excellent teaching by providing quality education that will enable its graduates to demonstrate their technical proficiency, their ability to communicate effectively, their responsible citizenship, their lifelong learning, and their ethical behavior in their career and professional practice. The NVE also encourages activities that enrich the student potential for career and professional achievement and leadership. The NVE is committed to providing graduates who improve the quality of life, meet the needs of industry and government, and contribute to the economic competitiveness of the region and the nation. The NVE strives to attain a level of research and scholarly productivity befitting a major research university and warranting national and international recognition for excellence. 

2. College of Business: 
2.1 Accounting Department: 
The Department of Accounting at KUST is an acknowledged centre of excellence. The department has a tradition of intellectual diversity, and we are committed to creating and disseminating knowledge related to accounting through research, teaching, and various professional and policy contributions. Graduates of the department program will grasp the potential of accounting in a wide range of settings. Our graduates will learn to analyze how accounting is implicated in a multifaceted range of institutional and organizational processes of calculation, reporting and evaluation. Our faculty explores an equally diverse range of issues in their research drawing on a variety of disciplinary perspectives. This is a place of outstanding faculty, cutting-edge research, global perspective, and a commitment to preparing graduates and placing them in dynamic careers. High level of entrepreneurship and innovation is at the core of our mission.

2.2 Business Administration: 
Here in Komar University for Science and Technology (KUST), we are very excited that we bring together multiple disciples to graduate students armed with cutting edge knowledge, skills and highest standards of ethics. We believe that much of our beloved country s problems don’t come from a shortage of resources or creative minds, but from how they are utilized. We stress upon the fact that productive utilization of resources, especially the creative minds of our youth, is both a form of art and a scientific approach. We have oriented our department away from supplying our nation’s administrative system with more paper-pushers who conform with dysfunctional administrative systems. We are committed to helping a new generation of entrepreneurs, who don t just attempt to survive existing business environments, but also lead the way to bring about change. 

3. College of Science: 
3.1 Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Department: 
The MLS department in the college of science at Komar University of science and technology provides a state of art of education combined with cutting edge knowledge, technical skills, and work ethics necessary for proficient performance of clinical laboratory procedures. This program deals with diagnosis, prevention, and control of disease through understanding, application, and performance of a variety of clinical laboratory analyses. We believe that properly trained medical laboratory scientists are essential members of the health care system who provide vital information about the status and function of the body and its systems.

4. College of Languages: 
4.1 The Department of English 
The Department of English at Komar University of Science and Technology offers students a fouryear study undergraduate program leading to an English major. If students fulfill this undergraduate study program successfully and meet all the University, College and Department requirements, they would hold a B.A. degree in English Language and Literature.
